Appreciation Day |
The National Association
of School Nurses has proclaimed January 23, 2002, as National School Nurse
Day. The fourth Wednesday in January
has been set aside for recognition of school nurses for more than two decades. The purpose of this day is to celebrate the
contribution of school nurses toward improving the health of children and
fostering a better understanding of the school nurses role.
School nurses have the
professional education and skills to function successfully in the complex
systems of education and health. The
primary role of the school nurse is to support student learning through the
implementation of strategies that promote student and staff health and safety.
Division superintendents
are encouraged to join the Department of Education in recognizing Virginia
school nurses for their dedication to students good health and their
compassion for students who need medical attention.
