Recommendations
for Commonwealth Talent Pool |
The
Department of Education has established a talent pool that consists of a cadre
of distinguished teachers and administrators in Virginias public schools who
may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces as well as
candidates for special recognition programs such as the 2002 Milken Educator
Award. What is especially needed at this
time is representation from outstanding elementary (kindergarten through grade
6) educators from your division. Please submit recommendations for two
elementary classroom teachers and one administrator (principal or assistant
principal) who demonstrate exceptional instructional ability.
Individuals
are needed who exhibit strong potential for professional leadership and who
have a positive impact on students, colleagues, and the community. The two classroom teachers recommended
should be in their early to mid-careers with no more than 15 to 18 years of
service. Principals recommended should be individuals who are in their first 10
years of employment as administrators and who do not have more than 20 years
total experience. Candidates must be individuals who are recognized by peers
and supervisors for their achievements.
Please
prepare and submit your recommendations on the attached form. In 1999 and 2000
many of you submitted recommendations for elementary educators to the
Commonwealth Talent Pool. You may update, revise, and resubmit those
recommendations for the 2002 pool. All questions must be answered. Also, please
include with this form a one-page narrative that specifies how the candidate
meets the criteria mentioned in this memo.
Complete
information should be sent by March 15,
2002, to Dr. Thomas A. Elliott, assistant superintendent, Division of
Teacher Education and Licensure, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box
2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120. I look forward to your participation in this
effort. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Elliott at
(804) 371-2522.
