Student Advisory
Committee to the Virginia Board of Education |
The Virginia
Board of Education is seeking applications from students who are interested in
serving on the Student Advisory Committee for the 2002-2003 academic year. One nomination may be submitted from the
following:
Each public
high school in Regions 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8 (Note: Regions 2, 4, and 5 are
represented by current members who will continue in their service for a second
year);
Each public
middle school in the commonwealth; and
Each
statewide student organization may also submit a nomination.
Student membership will consist of one
high school student from each of the eight Superintendents Regions and four
middle school students selected at-large from the commonwealth. The President
of the Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and two
additional board members will also serve on the committee.
The Student Advisory Committee will
meet at least three times during the 2002-2003 academic year, with two meetings
to coincide with regularly scheduled Board meetings. The first meeting will be
held on September 25-26, 2002.
The criteria for student selection are
listed in the application packet (attached).
Applications should be postmarked by April 16, 2002, and mailed to Dr. Margaret
N. Roberts, executive assistant to the Board of Education, Virginia Department
of Education, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA
23218-2120.
