Nominations for the Virginia Advisory Committee
for the Education of the Gifted, 2003-2006 Term |
The Virginia Board of Education appoints members to
the Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted. The committee provides
the board and the Superintendent of Public Instruction with advice and
recommendations regarding educational services for gifted students in public
schools. The committee studies issues related to the education of the gifted
and to the Governors School program. Its findings are provided to the Board of
Education through an annual report.
Nominees are currently being sought for the
three-year term that will begin in September 2003 and end in June 2006. For the
2003-2006 term, candidates are being sought to represent the following
organizations or groups:
Gifted Education Coordinator (1)
Higher Education Representative from (1)
Private Colleges or Universities
Teacher of the Gifted (1)
Local Advisory Committee Representative (1)
Academic-Year Governors School Director (1)
Other nominees are being sought to represent
professional organizations. The committees bylaws require that these nominees
be members of the executive boards of their respective organizations. Letters
requesting nominations are also being sent to the executive directors of the
following organizations:
Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (1)
Administrative Consortium of Educators of the Gifted
(1)
Virginia Chamber of Commerce (1)
Virginia Education Association (unfinished term) (1)
Superintendents and other individuals are invited to
recommend persons to be nominated to the Advisory Committee for the Education
of the Gifted. In February 2003, the advisory committees nominating
subcommittee will review information submitted by nominees for the 2003-2006
term. The committees slate of recommended members will be submitted to the
Board of Education in May 2003 for approval.
Nominations may be made by completing the
recommendation form attached to this memo and sending it electronically to Dr.
Barbara McGonagill(mailto:bmcgonag@pen.k12.va.us), specialist, Governors
Schools and gifted education, Office of Secondary Instructional Services, by
November 15, 2002. The recommendation form is available in Microsoft Word
format at the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted Web
