Expanded General Educational Development (GED)
Testing Services |
The Department of Education announces the
availability of $112,000 to expand General Educational Development (GED)
testing centers or satellite sites. The
number of adults and youth examinees taking the GED Tests has increased in the
last two years and some testing centers cannot meet the demand for
services.
GED expansion grants will be awarded to school
divisions for reimbursement of expenditures for one of the following activities:
(1)
to establish a new GED testing center in a school
division
that does not provide GED
testing,
(2)
to expand testing services at current sites, or
(3)
to increase the number of examinees being served.
Grant funds may be used to purchase GED test batteries,
to pay test examiners wages and benefits, or to pay for other costs associated
with establishing or expanding GED testing centers or satellite sites.
School divisions may apply for a maximum of $7,500
to establish a new testing center or to establish satellite-testing sites in
localities that are not being served. School divisions may apply for a maximum
of $5,000 to expand a GED testing center for the purpose of increasing the
number of examinees. Two or more
divisions may work together under a memorandum of agreement and request up to
the maximum amount of funding for each division. One school division shall serve as fiscal agent for a regional
center.
Applications for expanded GED testing services funds must
be received on or before 4:30 p.m. on November 15, 2002. The application packet may be mailed or
delivered to the following addresses:
