Process to
Evaluate Locally Selected and/or Developed English Language Proficiency
Instruments |
As stated in
Administrative Superintendent's Memorandum No. 2,
dated January 10, 2003, Title III sub-grantees that wish to use locally
selected and/or developed assessment instruments to measure the English
language proficiency of limited English proficient (LEP) students not on the
state approved list must submit to the Department of Education requests to use
such instruments.
The process
for submission of such instruments is as follows. School divisions must submit:
1) a letter of their intent to use locally selected and/or developed
instruments to measure the English language proficiency of their LEP students,
2) a completed form attached to this memo at /administrators/superintendents_memos/2003/adm009b.pdf,
and 3) the locally selected and/or developed instruments.
Also attached
to this memo at /administrators/superintendents_memos/2003/adm009a.pdf
is the rubric that will be used by the Department of Education review panel to
evaluate the instruments against the criteria stipulated in the Title III, Part
A, Guidance on Standards, Assessments, and Accountability.
Submissions
must be received on or before March 15, 2003.
