Changes to Board-Approved
Courses to Satisfy Graduation Requirements in History and Social Science |
At its April 29, 2003,
meeting the Board of Education approved changes to the list of board-approved
courses to satisfy graduation requirements for History and Social Science. As
you are aware, when the History and Social Science Standards of Learning were
revised, changes were made to several course titles. Thus, it became necessary to update and revise the list of
board-approved courses to satisfy graduation requirements to reflect the new
course titles. New course codes also
have been assigned. In addition, the
courses associated with the board-approved Advanced Placement and International
Baccalaureate assessments allowed as substitute assessments have been included
on the revised lists of courses. Please
see the attachment for the complete list of board-approved history and social
science courses to satisfy graduation requirements and the designated course
codes.
Since the revised History and Social Science Standards
of Learning will be fully implemented in the 2003-2004 school year, the
approved list of courses and course codes is effective July 1, 2003. Please make sure that your secondary school
principals and guidance counselors are aware of the changes.
