Title III:
Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Immigrant
Students Data Survey |
The No
Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title III:
Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Immigrant
Students requires school divisions to report data on their LEP population. In order to meet the data collection
requirements in the legislation for the 2002-2003 school year, the data are
being collected through two sources.
Enrollment and home language information were reported in the fall 2002
membership data report. The additional
data required to comply with the federal act will be collected through the
survey described in this memorandum.
The survey
must be accessed electronically and completed using Excel 97 or a later
version. The survey can be downloaded
from the Department of Education website at:
http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Publications/LEP/datacoll/coll.htm.
Detailed
instructions for completing the survey and submitting the report are
attached. The data should be submitted
electronically by June 30,2003, to: (LEP@mail.vak12ed.edu).
If you have
questions regarding the survey, please contact Roberta Schlicher (rschlicher@mail.vak12ed.edu), ESL
specialist, Office of Middle Instructional Services at (804) 786-1692.
