Grants for Fiscal Year 2004 |
The state appropriation act for
fiscal year 2004 (Chapter 1042, 2003 Acts of Assembly) authorized the transfer
of $10,093,313 from the Dropout
Prevention program to the Student Achievement Grant program. School divisions receiving payments under
this program shall use the funds at their discretion for one or more of the
following purposes:
1) reducing class sizes in grades kindergarten
through grade 3;
2) increasing services in the Early Reading Intervention program;
3) serving at-risk four-year-old students including those served by Title I programs;
4) providing additional remediation to students who have failed or who are at risk of failing the Standards of Learning tests; and
5) providing dropout prevention services.
School divisions that receive funds
under this program must match the state funds with local funds based on the
composite index of local ability-to-pay.
They must also report annually to the Department of Education which of
the above-stated programs were supplemented by these funds.
Attachment A contains a printout of each school divisions Student Achievement Grant allocation for the fiscal year 2004. Divisions interested in receiving FY2004 Student Achievement Grants must complete the certification form in Attachment B and submit it to Linda M. Wallinger, associate director for teacher quality and innovative programs, by September 29, 2003.
