Regional Training:
Discipline, Crime, and Violence Data Reporting |
The purpose of this memo is to provide information on regional training related to the collection and reporting of discipline, crime, and violence data. Data are submitted by all school divisions to meet the reporting requirements for the following:
Safety
indicators for the state School Performance Report Card
State crime
and violence report as required in 22.1-280.1, Code of Virginia
Federal
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) report on
suspension/expulsion of students with disabilities
Federal Safe
and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act
Federal
Gun-Free Schools Act
During
the training sessions, department staff will address the following:
Background of
Virginia Department of Educations combined reporting process
Reporting
requirements for Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Gun-Free Schools
Reporting
requirements of special education students
Reporting
requirements for discipline, crime, and violence involving codes and sanctions
New
requirements created by the No Child Left Behind Act (Persistently Dangerous
Schools)
Maintaining,
reporting, and processing data (procedures involving collecting, submitting,
and verifying data)
Questions and
answers
Evaluation
These sessions are designed to provide information on the Department of Educations combined discipline data reporting process. It is recommended that participants include school division discipline contact persons, building administrators, Safe and Drug-Free Schools coordinators, and other individuals at the building or central office level who are directly involved with the collection and submission of these data (e.g. technology staff, data entry staff).
Training sessions will be conducted in the eight State Superintendents Regional Study Groups. Listed below are the dates and locations for the sessions. Participants may attend the session that is most convenient for them.
