The Virginia Association
of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) and the Virginia Department of
Education (DOE) extend an invitation to all assistant principals, lead
teachers, principals and other professional educators within your school or
school district to participate in the 2003 Annual Assistant Principals/Lead
Teachers Professional Development Conference.
The Conference, Stepping Up to the Challenge of Leadership,
will be held March 20-21, 2003 at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg,
Virginia.
This conference is designed specifically for assistant
principals and lead teachers of a school who are responsible for providing
instructional leadership. Dr. Douglas
Reeves will provide the keynote presentation.
Dr. Reeves expertise is improving student achievement through reading
and writing. He also addresses issues such as improving the knowledge and
skills of school leaders as they transform their approach to standards,
assessment, and accountability.
A variety
of concurrent sessions will be offered to participants encompassing four main
categories: Curriculum/Instruction, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Technology,
and Leadership. Practitioners from
across the Commonwealth and members of the Department of Education will conduct
these sessions.
Special
sessions will be conducted regarding the $16.9 million Reading First Grant
awarded to Virginia on January 9, 2003. These sessions will address the
components necessary to obtain a grant. Two hundred twenty-one schools in 66
divisions in Virginia are eligible and funding will be awarded beginning July
1, 2003.
As we continue to provide
the best possible professional development opportunities for the principals and
teachers of Virginia, we hope that you will join us in Williamsburg on March
20-21, 2003 for this outstanding professional development program.
