SUBJECT: |
Nominations
for the Reading Instructional Materials Review Committees |
The purpose of this memo is to seek nominations for
membership on the K-5 Reading Instructional Materials Review Committees. Members of these committees provide content
area and grade level expertise in the review of textbooks and materials
relative to their alignment with the English Standards of Learning.
There are Reading Instructional Materials Review
Committees for each of three grade groupings, K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. In addition to the members with grade level
and content area expertise, the committees will include parents and
representatives of higher education.
Publishers will be instructed to send each committee
member the textbooks and related materials, including the proposed correlation
of the materials with the 2002 English Standards of Learning. The committees will review the materials
independently. We anticipate that the
committees will meet in Richmond in July 2003 to compile the review documents.
Please nominate one or more distinguished educators
in your division and forward a copy of the attached K-5 Reading Instructional
Materials Review Committee Application to each of the people you have
nominated. Nominees should submit
completed forms to the division superintendent for his/her signature; the forms
are to be returned to the Department of Education by Wednesday, April 9, 2003.
