INFORMATIONAL

TO:

Division Superintendents

FROM:

Jo Lynne DeMary

Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:

Newspaper for Summer

I am pleased to announce that through a partnership between the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and The New York Times, free newspapers are available for middle-level students in Virginia during summer programs and throughout the month of September 2003. A total of 2,500 copies per day (Monday through Friday) during the summer, and 10,500 copies per day (Monday through Friday) throughout the month of September can be distributed.

School divisions that are interested in receiving free copies of The New York Times during the summer and/or September should indicate the total number of copies needed by each school each day, the starting and ending dates, and the complete addresses of the schools, including zip codes. This information should be compiled at the school division level and sent to Dr. Jeanita Richardson at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia at JeanitaRichardson@schev.edu or fax to 804-225-2604. The deadline for submitting a request is Friday, June 27, 2003, and requests will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

I encourage school divisions to take advantage of this generous offer from a new corporate partner. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Cooley (mailto:nancycooley@schev.edu), director of academic affairs and planning, State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, at (804) 225-2629.
