SUBJECT:	Submission of 2005-2010 Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted

Regulations Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students (8 VAC 20-40-10 through 8 VAC 20-40-70), approved by the Virginia Board of Education in 1993, require school divisions to submit a plan for the education of the gifted to the Department of Education for approval. Through its plan, the division must demonstrate compliance with the regulations.

To assist school divisions in complying with 8 VAC 20-40-60, the department has developed a template for submitting the required 2005-2010 Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted. A Word template and peer review guidelines that will be used to determine compliance are available at the following website: http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Instruction/Gifted/gifted.htm

The department has developed a timeline for specific activities within the 2005-2010 local plan submission, review, and approval process. The 2005-2010 local plan must be submitted to the department by June 30, 2005. The complete timeline of the review process is included in the plan template.
