TO:

Division Superintendents

FROM:

Jo Lynne DeMary

Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:

Participation in Pilot Testing of the Educational Information Management System (EIMS)

As you know, The Virginia Department of Education recently announced a new partnership with Pearson Educational Measurement to develop an Educational Information Management System (EIMS). The EIMS will feature:

Decision Support Tools for Teachers and Administrators

Training for Educators on Using Information to Make Better Decisions

Ability to Pre-identify Students for State Assessments

         Standard and Ad-hoc Reporting.

The EIMS will be piloted with a sample of school divisions from January to mid-May, 2004. We invite you to apply to participate in the pilot. Pilot sites will be selected based on geography, demographic factors, and extent of participation in the SOL Technology Initiative.

The pilot project will enable us to tailor the EIMS to your needs. I encourage you to consider participating. The deadline for returning the application is January 22, 2004.

More information on the EIMS, a pilot schedule, estimates of resource commitments, and pilot application form are available on the EIMS Web page here:
