Even Start Family Literacy
Competitive Grant Application |
The Department of Education announces the availability of
funds for Even Start Family Literacy programs.
Family literacy was adopted as a priority of the Board of Education in
June 2001. Under the requirements of
the Even Start Family Literacy Program, Title
I, Part B, Subpart 3 of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (P.L. 107-110 as
amended), funding is available
through the competitive grant application process.
The purposes of funding Even Start projects are: (1) to improve the educational opportunities of children and adults by integrating early childhood education and adult education into a unified, family-centered program; (2) to help parents become full partners in their childrens education; and, (3) to assist children in reaching their potential as learners.
The maximum grant award for the 2004-2005 school year will
be $225,000 for each project.
A local education agency must apply in partnership with a
community-based organization for a grant.
The attached information packet includes an application, required
program elements, and indicators of program quality.
Applications for the competitive grant must be postmarked by midnight or hand-delivered no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 19, 2004.
The application packet may be mailed or delivered to the following addresses:
