Nominations for the Textbook and Instructional Materials Review Committees |
The purpose of this memorandum is to
seek nominations for membership on 20042005 textbook and instructional
materials review committees in several core discipline areas. These committees include:
Attached to this
memorandum are three separate response forms, one for each of the discipline
areas being reviewed. Please nominate one or more distinguished educators in
your division, and forward to each of them a copy of the appropriate
application to serve on one of the textbook and instructional materials review
committees. Nominees should submit
completed forms to the division superintendent for his/her signature. The forms are to be returned to the
Department of Education by April 1, 2004. All applicants will be notified of
their status on the committees by April 16, 2004.
Participants will be selected based on
discipline area expertise, experience, and statewide representation. Publishers
will be instructed to send the textbooks and related materials, including the
proposed correlations with the Standards of Learning in each discipline area,
to those educators chosen to participate.
Publishers materials will be sent to the selected committee members
around June 1, 2004. After receiving the materials from publishers, each
committee member will review the materials independently at home. The
committees will meet in Richmond during the summer according to the following
schedule:
Meals and lodging will be provided. Mileage will be reimbursed in accordance
with current state guidelines, and committee members will receive a $100
honorarium and a certificate of eligibility for 30 licensure renewal points.
