Request for
Migrant Education Liaison |
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that
every migrant child and youth be identified and have access to services offered
to other students in school and determined to be in the child's or youth's best
interest. Title I, Part C, Section 1309,
of the NCLB Act defines a migrant child as follows: a child who is, or whose
parent or spouse is, a migratory agricultural worker, including a migratory
dairy worker, or a migratory fisher, and who, in the preceding 36 months, in order
to obtain, or accompany such parent or spouse, in order to obtain, temporary or
seasonal employment in agricultural or fishing work has moved from one school
district to another.
The Department of Education would like to establish a migrant education liaison in each school division in order to provide comprehensive technical assistance. School divisions are encouraged to provide information regarding a migrant education liaison on the attached form by August 20, 2004. Forms may be returned via mail, fax, or e-mail using the following contact information:
