English Standards of Learning Enhanced Scope and Sequence |
I
am pleased to inform you that the K-12 English Standards of Learning Enhanced
Scope and Sequence is available in Word and PDF format on the Department of
Educations website at http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/EnhancedSandS/. This resource is intended to help teachers
align their classroom instruction with the revised English Standards of
Learning that were adopted by the Board of Education in November 2002.
Teachers and curriculum specialists are encouraged to use the Enhanced Scope and Sequence as a resource for developing sound curricular and instructional programs. These materials are intended as examples of how the knowledge and skills from the English Curriculum Framework might be presented to students in lessons aligned with the Standards of Learning.
A companion resource that describes strategies for differentiating instruction for limited English proficient (LEP) students and students with disabilities is being developed to assist school divisions in adapting English instruction to meet the needs of these subgroups. Additional information about how to access these resources will be forthcoming in a future superintendents memorandum.
