Algebra Readiness Symposium |
On November 11, 2004, the Virginia Department of Education
will sponsor a professional development opportunity for school division
personnel entitled, Algebra Readiness: A Symposium of Best Practices. The purpose of the symposium is to provide
information on techniques and programs that have shown promise in helping
students succeed in Algebra I. The
symposium will be held at the Hotel Roanoke.
Registration is open to all Algebra Readiness Initiative
(ARI) administrators, ARI teachers/tutors, grades 6 through 9 special education
teachers, and teachers of students with limited English proficiency. Each division should send only one
registration form with all participants listed.
School divisions are invited to send a number of
representatives based on their fall 2004 enrollment. Divisions with enrollments under 10,000 students may send two
participants. Divisions with
enrollments between 10,001 and 30,000 may send three participants. Divisions
with enrollments over 30,000 may send four participants.
The division may select four choices for the two-hour
workshops that will be part of the symposium.
Participants will be assigned to those selections on a first-come,
first-served basis. Additional
information about each of the sessions will be posted at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Math/ARI/.
The Virginia Department of Education will cover the cost of
one nights lodging for those over 75 miles from the site of the
symposium. The department encourages
school division teams to share rooms at the facility on a double occupancy
basis where appropriate.
