Implementation
of EIMS |
As you know, the Department of Education has been
working with 32 school divisions to implement the Educational Information
Management System (EIMS). The EIMS is
an important component of Governor Warners Education for a Lifetime
initiative. This is to inform you of our plans to begin full implementation
with the remaining divisions this fall and winter.
A pilot of the system helped us to determine the
priorities and schedule for fully implementing EIMS in all school
divisions. We will be conducting full
implementation with the remaining school divisions in two waves. Wave I, consisting of 50 school divisions,
will take place in October November 2004. Wave II, consisting of the
remaining divisions, will take place in January February 2005. Please consult the EIMS Implementation
Schedule on the EIMS website to determine the schedule for your
division. All school divisions,
regardless of the wave they are in, will have access to their Virginia state
assessment data via EIMS within the next several months.
Implementation of EIMS in your division requires the
commitment and participation of a project manager, your student information
systems coordinator, and your division director of testing. The project manager you designate for EIMS
will be our main point of contact to schedule training, obtain information for
logons and passwords, and manage implementation issues. Please designate the EIMS project manager
for your school division by returning the Project Manager Designation Form via
fax to Nicole Conyard, information management secretary, at 804-371-8978.

We appreciate your commitment to the EIMS project.
Pearson Educational Measurement, our partner in this project, is building a Rapid
Response Team based in Virginia that will respond to any implementation
issues you may have.
For more information on the EIMS project, please
refer to the EIMS project website at www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Technology/EIMS
