Using the GPS in the Classroom Workshops |
The Virginia Department of Education, in partnership
with the Virginia Space Grant Consortiums OVERspace program, is pleased to
announce five regional Using the GPS in the Classroom workshops. These one-day workshops will provide
teachers with an introduction to Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and
provide training for incorporating GPS technology into classroom
instruction. Participants will receive
lesson plans and a GPS unit to take back to their schools to share with other
teachers in their department.
There is no fee to attend the workshops; however,
participants must pre-register by November 15, 2004. Priority for registration will be given to Earth
Science and sixth-grade science teachers from schools serving a significant
number of students of disadvantaged and underserved populations.
Each location is limited to 20 participants. Lunch will be provided. If the session
location you request is already full, you will be contacted in an attempt to
provide an alternate location. An
e-mail confirmation notice will be sent to you, along with logistical
details. More information
regarding registration and a registration form is attached.
The workshops will be held at the following Virginia
community colleges:
Tidewater
