The Board of Education adopted a schedule for review and revisions to the Standards of Learning at its September 28, 2000 meeting. The computer technology standards are scheduled for revision in 2005, (The Code of Virginia 22.1-253.13:1-2 states that By October 1, 2000, the Board of Education shall establish a regular schedule, in a manner it deems appropriate, for the review, and revision as may be necessary, of the Standards of Learning in all subject areas. The Board of Education at the September 2004 meeting approved a schedule for reviewing the Computer/Technology Standards of Learning. A review team will be established consisting of three Department of Education educational technology specialists and representatives from each of the eight superintendents regional study groups. The members will represent all levels of key instruction and educational technology stakeholders.

The Department of Education staff members will identify and

obtain current national standards, reports, and other resources to assist with the review. The members of this review team and the department staff will examine national computer/technology curriculum documents; recent state, national, and international assessment results; and systematic feedback from school personnel to determine what revisions, if any, are needed in Virginias computer technology standards.

School personnel and other interested individuals will be provided an opportunity to review and to respond to the existing K-12 computer technology standards that were adopted in 1995 and 2000 and to make recommendations for the revised standards. The computer/technology standards may be viewed on the Department of Education website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Technology/OET/stds.shtml. Comments on the existing standards may be submitted electronically at 95CTSOL@doe.virginia.gov or by surface mail to Charlie Makela, Office of Educational Technology, Department of Education, P. O.
