Spring Professional Development Academy for K-12 Teachers of Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students |
As part of
the Virginia Department of Educations ongoing effort to meet the professional
development requirements of Title III, Part A, Language Instruction for Limited
English Proficient and Immigrant Students, of the No Child Left Behind Act
of 2001, a professional development academy for teachers of LEP students
will be offered. The graduate-level
course entitled, Education 600: Reading and Writing Strategies for Limited
English Proficient (LEP) Students, will be held concurrently in three
locations: Williamsburg, Richmond, and
Roanoke. The course will be held from 9
a.m. 4 p.m. on the
following six Saturdays: February 5, 19, 2005; March 5, 19, 2005;
April 2, 16, 2005. The course will focus on effective reading and
writing strategies for LEP students.
Participants will receive three hours of graduate-level credit through
George Mason University upon successful completion of the course.
The Virginia
Department of Education will pay the tuition and textbook expenses for all
participants. The costs of travel,
meals, and lodging, if needed, will be the responsibility of the participants. A block of hotel rooms will be reserved at
the state rate for all participants at each site.
Course
enrollment is limited to 25 participants per site. To enroll for the course, please fax the attached registration

e-mail jlevy@gmu.edu on or before January 7, 2005. Upon registration receipt, confirmation and additional
information will be sent to each registrant.
