Laboratory Phase of Driver Education |
Item
146.C.2.e.2, Chapter 4, 2004 Acts of Assembly, states: Local school boards may
charge a per pupil fee for behind-the-wheel driver education provided, however,
that the fee charged plus the per pupil basic aid reimbursement for driver
education shall not exceed the actual average
per pupil cost.... Pursuant to this item, only fees approved by the
Board of Education may be collected for the behind-the-wheel phase of driver
education taught during the regular school term. Fees charged for the summer school driver education program
continue to be authorized without prior approval from the Department of
Education.
To ensure
compliance with state regulations, all school divisions must submit by October
1, 2004, Attachment A, which can be downloaded from /administrators/superintendents_memos/2004/reg007a.pdf.
To request
approval to charge a fee for behind-the-wheel driver education taught during
the 2004-2005 regular school year, please complete pages one and two of
Attachment A. The fee charged, plus the
calculated per pupil reimbursement from basic aid, must not exceed the average
per pupil cost. Attachment B, which can be downloaded from /administrators/superintendents_memos/2004/reg007b.pdf,
provides
basic aid payments distributed.
To report
that your school division will not charge a fee for behind-the-wheel driver
education during the regular 2004-2005 school term, please complete and return
page one of Attachment A.
