Annual Report, Programs for the Gifted |
In 1999, the Code of Virginia was modified to include the following provision:
Each
local school division shall submit the annual report, Programs for the
Gifted, as required by Board regulations, to the Department of Education. [22.1-18.1]
The 2004-2005
annual report, Programs for the Gifted, will be collected through the
Department of Educations Single Sign-On for Web Applications Systems
(SSWS). Access to the application,
Gifted Education, for school division personnel should be requested through the
school divisions SSWS account manager.
The Gifted
Education application will collect teacher data and program services data, to
correlate with the school divisions March 31, 2005, student records data
submission. In this application, school
divisions will be required to provide only two kinds of information: Teacher Training and Program Services.
Teacher
Training: The application will ask for
the number of both full- and part-time teachers of the gifted as specified in
the school divisions approved local plan for the gifted. Further, the report will solicit information
about the training and credentials those teachers held or obtained in
2004-2005.
Program
Services: Individual program services
pages will be generated to allow the school divisions to report the options
available for identified students. For
example, if a school division identifies and serves students in only one
program, such as general intellectual ability, that single program page will be
created for the collection of the school divisions services data.
After
entering its teachers and program services data, each division must print a
verification report for the superintendents signature. The verification report should be mailed to
Dr. Barbara McGonagill, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, Virginia
Department of Education, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120, no later than
July 31, 2005.
Questions
regarding the document or the process may be addressed to Dr. Barbara McGonagill
(Barbara.McGonagill@doe.virginia.gov), specialist, Governors Schools and
Gifted Education, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, at (804)
225-2884.
Thank you for
your assistance with this activity and your continued support of gifted
education.
