Monitoring Review of the School Nutrition Programs |
The Code of
Federal Regulations 7, Section 210.18, requires the Department of Education to
conduct an administrative review (CRE) of the federally funded breakfast,
lunch, afterschool snack, and special milk programs in each school division
once every five years. This review is a
comprehensive on-site evaluation designed to assess compliance with
regulations, standards, and state and federal laws. For your information, the
schedule showing when each division will be reviewed during the next five years
is attached (Attachment 1).
A more detailed schedule with dates for each review for the school year 2005-2006 also is attached (Attachment 2). School divisions scheduled for a review next year are asked to compare the scheduled dates to the divisions calendar. Please advise the School Nutrition Programs Office by September 12, 2005, of any conflicts due to holidays, scheduled breaks, or any dates during the scheduled review week when meals would not be offered to students.
Personnel
from the Virginia Department of Education School Nutrition Programs Office will
conduct orientation sessions for divisions scheduled for a CRE review next
school year. Each division is asked to
send a representative(s) to one of the sessions. The representative(s) should have division-wide responsibility
for the school nutrition programs.
Identical orientation sessions will be conducted on September 22, 2005,
in Wytheville, and on September 23, 2005, in Richmond. The division should select the date and
location that is most convenient.
Additional information and registration details for the orientation
sessions will be sent directly to the school divisions scheduled to be reviewed
during the 2005-2006 school year.
If you have
questions regarding the federal review or conflicts with the scheduled review
dates, please contact Lynne Fellin, acting director of school nutrition
programs, at (804) 225-2074.
