ADMINISTRATIVE

TO:

Division Superintendents

FROM:

Jo Lynne DeMary

Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:

International Education Survey

I am pleased to inform you that the Asia Society has awarded the Virginia Department of Education a grant that will enable the department to integrate international knowledge and skills into the high school redesign efforts. Since one of the ultimate goals of education is to prepare individuals to live productively in our global society, developing and enhancing international perspectives will help meet this commitment.

To accomplish these goals, the Virginia Department of Education is developing an international education plan of action that will strengthen teaching strategies, language learning, and increase cultural understanding. A statewide advisory group will assist with recommendations.

To provide a starting point for Virginias action plan, we ask that you complete the electronic survey no later than September 15, 2005. In order to complete the survey, each division must assign a point of contact for the International Education Survey and grant data entry privileges through the Single Sign On for Web Applications. A copy of the survey is attached to help collect the information required on the electronic survey. The electronic survey is available at https://eb01.vak12ed.edu/ssws/com/vdoe/dataAdmin/jsp/LoginContainer.jsp.

For more information, please contact Faye Rollings-Carter (Faye.Rollings-Carter@doe.virginia.gov), associate director, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, at (804)225-2593.
