SUBJECT:

Spotlight on K-8 Mathematics Specialists Symposium

 

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce the Spotlight on K-8 Mathematics Specialists Symposium on May 13, 2005, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke, Virginia. This one-day event will offer a program that is aimed at informing schools about:

 

 

The symposium will be hosted by the University of Virginia, lead institution for the Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant for The Virginia Mathematics Specialist Project(VMSP). Simultaneously, two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants for mathematics specialists were awarded to Virginia institutions. Information about the progress of these projects will also be disseminated at this symposium.

 

Each school division is invited to send two representatives to the symposium. Lodging will be provided for one night to participants traveling over seventy-five miles from the conference site. A buffet dinner and pre-session will be held on May 12, 2005, at 6 p.m. for those arriving the night before to the symposium. Information regarding registration, directions, and hotel accommodations can be found on the attached form. Lodging for participants who must travel 75 miles or more will be provided for the evening of May 12, 2005. To receive this lodging, eligible participants should call The Hotel Roanoke at (540) 985-5900 by April 15, 2005, and indicate that they are with the Mathematics Specialist Program Showcase. Registration is due by April 29, 2005.
