Jobs For Virginia
Graduates(JVG)Grant Application Process |
The General Assembly has made funds available to Jobs for Virginia Graduates to fund programs in local school divisions using the Jobs for Americas Graduates (JAG) national model. The Virginia Department of Education will be serving as the fiscal agent for these programs. A limited number of programs will be funded through the Virginia Department of Educations competitive grant application process in amounts up to $25,000. School divisions will be required to match this amount with local funds and/or private funds.
The primary mission of the program is to assist high
school youth who are economically disadvantaged and to provide additional
supports that enable them to graduate, secure and retain quality jobs. The school division must utilize grant funds
to employ a job specialist who will work directly with 35 to 45 students who
meet the program criteria. The job
specialist will be required to attend training in Northern Virginia the week of
July 18 21, 2005. School divisions may pool their resources to develop a
regional application.
School divisions that are interested in submitting
applications for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2005 June 30, 2006) should
complete the attached forms and submit the application to Elizabeth M. Russell
at the Department of Education no later than June 7, 2005. If you have program requirement questions,
you may contact Barry Glenn, president, Jobs for Virginia Graduates at (804)
513-1931 or rbglenn@cox.net. Financial
questions may be directed to Rebecca Marable, grants administrator, Office of
Career and Technical Education Services at (804) 225-3349 or rebecca.marable@doe.virginia.gov.
