Summer Professional
Development Academy on Identification of Limited English Proficient Students
and Data Analysis for Improving Student Achievement |
As part of
the Virginia Department of Educations ongoing effort to assist school
divisions in meeting the requirements of Title III, Part A, of the No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001, a summer professional development academy for
Title III coordinators or their designees will be offered. The academy titled, Identifying and Serving
Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students will be offered on August 2, 2005, at
the Dorey Park Recreation Center in Richmond, Virginia. The academy will include strategies to
assist school divisions in initial identification and placement of LEP students. The academy will also address strategies to
assist school divisions in meeting the annual measurable achievement objectives
(AMAO) in proficiency and progress for LEP students.
Enrollment in
the academy is limited to 50 participants and may include up to two
participants per school division. Priority will be given to school divisions
that did not meet the AMAOs for the 2003-2004 school year. To enroll, please complete Attachment A, and
fax or e-mail it to Jennifer Sherry at 804-371-7347 (fax) or Jennifer.Sherry@doe.virginia.gov
on or before July 15, 2005. Upon
receipt of the registration, confirmation and driving directions will be sent
to each registrant. Lunch will be
provided for all participants.
