Instruction Update |
Attached is a revised list of correspondence schools whose courses may be used to comply with Option (iii) of 22.1-254.1.A. of the Code of Virginia pertaining to home instruction. The list identifies approved correspondence schools offering academic courses satisfying this option, and should be made available to parents who wish to use this option as a means of satisfying the home instruction requirements.
To assist parents and school personnel, the home instruction handbook and the compilation of the statutes governing compulsory attendance and home instruction have been revised and posted on the departments website. You may find these documents at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Parents/homeinst.pdf and
http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Parents/hmistatu.pdf.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions about home instruction or the list of correspondence schools, you may contact Michelle Vucci, director of policy, at michelle.vucci@doe.virginia.gov, or at (804) 225-2092, or contact Sandra Peterson, policy analyst at sandra.peterson@doe.virginia.gov, or at (804)-786-0941.
