Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2, Rural and Low-Income School Program Entitlements
under Provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Public Law
107-110 |
Attached are
the 2005-2006 Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2, Rural and Low-Income School Program
federal allocations for school divisions that qualify based upon the following
eligibility criteria: 1) 20 percent or more of the children ages 5-17 years
served by the division are from families with incomes below the poverty line,
and 2) all public schools in the division have a locale code of 6,7, or 8. The
total amount of the allocation was available to the school division as of July
1, 2005, through the reimbursement process.
These funds
may be used in any of the following areas:
1. Teacher recruitment and retention,
using signing bonuses;
2. Professional development for teachers;
3. Educational technology;
4. Parental involvement activities;
5. Activities authorized under Title IV,
Part A, Safe and Drug-Free Schools;
6. Activities authorized under Title I,
Part A, Improving Basic Programs; and
7. Activities authorized under Title III,
Part A, Limited English Proficient.
Upon receipt
of an approvable application to the Virginia Department of Education, the
school division will receive an e-mail with instructions to log onto the Online
Management of Education Grant Awards (OMEGA) System to review the grant award
notifications and to distribute the budgets to the object code level.
If the school
division has received approval for its 2005-2006 consolidated application,
please amend the application to include the Title VI allocation, and complete
the corresponding pages. If the school division submits individual
applications, please prepare an individual Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2,
