Fee for the Laboratory Phase of Driver Education |
Item 146.C.2.e.2, Chapter 4, 2004 Acts of Assembly, states: Local school boards may charge a per pupil fee for behind-the-wheel driver education provided, however, that the fee charged plus the per pupil basic aid reimbursement for driver education shall not exceed the actual average per pupil cost. . . . Pursuant to this item, only fees approved by the Board of Education may be collected for the behind-the-wheel phase of driver education taught during the regular school term. Fees charged for the summer school driver education program continue to be authorized without prior approval from the Department of Education.
To ensure compliance with state regulations, all school divisions must submit Attachment A by October 1, 2005. To request approval to charge a fee for behind-the-wheel driver education taught during the 2005-2006 regular school year, please complete pages one and two of Attachment A. To report that your school division will not charge a fee for behind-the-wheel driver education during the regular 2005-2006 school term, please complete and return page one of Attachment A. The fee charged, plus the calculated per pupil reimbursement from basic aid, must not exceed the average per pupil cost. Attachment B provides basic aid payments distributed for behind-the-wheel driver education.
