FROM: |
Patricia

SUBJECT: |
2005-2006 School Health Advisory
Board Annual Report and
Local Wellness Policy Status Report |
The purpose of this memorandum is to request the
completion of the annual School Health Advisory Board Report, as required by
the Code of Virginia 22.1-275.1. Each School Health Advisory Board
(SHAB) is required to submit an annual report on the status and needs of
students health in the school division to the school board, the Virginia
Department of Health, the Virginia Department of Education, and other appropriate
parties.
In addition, Superintendents Memorandum #7(Regulatory),
dated May 20, 2005, detailed the requirements for school divisions to develop a
Local Wellness Policy (LWP) by July 1, 2006.
The annual SHAB report has been modified this year to include a status
report of this policy. School divisions
were encouraged to use the existing SHAB, in conjunction with nutrition
advisory councils and other advisory groups, as the infrastructure to address
the local wellness issue. If a
committee other than the SHAB has been charged with responsibility for the
local wellness policy, that section of this annual report should be forwarded
to the responsible committee for completion.
The annual SHAB report was modified to include the LWP report to reduce
the reporting requirements for school divisions. The LWP information will be forwarded to the school nutrition
programs office for monitoring and technical assistance.
The 2005-2006
School Health Advisory Board Annual Report form, including the Local Wellness Policy Status Report, may
