INFORMATIONAL

TO:

Division Superintendents

FROM:

Patricia I. Wright

Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction

SUBJECT:

Supplemental Educational Services Providers Data Collection Technical Assistance Audio Workshop

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires Title I schools in years two through five of Title I School Improvement to offer supplemental educational services (SES) to parents of eligible children. Supplemental educational services are academic enrichment services provided outside the regular school day. The services must be of high quality, research-based, and designed to increase the academic achievement of eligible children.

As stipulated in Section 1116(e)(4)(D) of NCLB, state educational agencies are required to develop, implement, and publicly report on standards and techniques for monitoring the quality and effectiveness of the services offered by approved SES providers. To comply with this requirement, the department surveys school divisions through the School Improvement Survey data collection annually.

To assist school divisions in preparing for the spring 2006 data collection, one-hour technical assistance audio workshops will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006. The workshops will: 1) review the necessary SES data elements school divisions should collect for each student receiving SES, and 2) answer questions regarding the SES data collection process. Title I coordinators, SES program managers, and principals of schools providing SES are encouraged to participate.

School divisions are encouraged to assemble participants at one location, use a speakerphone, and call in at the time specified below. Division assignments are determined based on the beginning letter of the school divisions name. Callers should dial the toll-free number provided below and enter the pass code.
