The Virginia Commission for the Arts has
announced an April 3, 2006, application deadline for the Artists in
Education Residency grants. These
grants are awarded to elementary, middle, and high schools, school divisions,
and tax-exempt arts and civic organizations for residencies provided by
professional artists of various arts disciplines. The program offers schools a unique learning
experience for their students and provides professional development for
teachers and artists. It highlights the
importance of the arts as essential components of a complete education and a
valued part of community life.
Applicants may request up to 50 percent
of the eligible costs of the residency.
First time applicants may request up to two-thirds of the eligible
costs. Tax-exempt arts and civic
organizations may work in partnership with local school(s) in planning and implementing the residency program. Please refer to the 2006-2008 Guidelines for

All applications are reviewed by the
commissions statewide Arts in Education Advisory Panel. The members of the panel are appointed by the
commission from a list of nominated artists, educators, arts administrators,
and community members from across
The Virginia Commission for the Arts is
a state agency that supports the arts through funding from the Virginia General
Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. The commission distributes grants to artists,
arts and other not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, arts
educators, and local governments, and provides technical assistance in arts
management.
