Technical Assistance for the Reporting of Limited English Proficient (LEP)
Student Data as Required Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 |
The No
Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires school divisions that receive
Title I and/or Title III funds to meet annual measurable achievement objectives
(AMAO) that include the following:
Annual
increases in the number or percentage of LEP students making progress in
learning English;
Annual
increases in the number or percentage of LEP students attaining full English
proficiency by the end of the school year; and
Percentage of
LEP students making adequate yearly progress as described in section 1111
(b)(2)(B).
In
preparation for meeting reporting requirements stipulated in sections
3121(a)(2)(3) and 3122(b) of NCLB, the Virginia Department of Education will
offer technical assistance to school divisions that did not meet the AMAO for
LEP students for 2004 and 2005.
This
Web-based training will provide assistance to school divisions regarding the
identification of limited English proficient (LEP) students, as well as how to
access and report the required data.
The WebEx
sessions will be offered on April 5, 2006, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; April 6,
2006, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and April 7, 2006, from 2 p.m. to 3:30
p.m. Please complete the attached
registration and return to Tracy Mayo, ESL reports and grants manager, at Tracy.Mayo@doe.virginia.gov or by
fax to (804) 371-7347 by March 31, 2006.
Registration is limited to 20 participants per session. Participants will be notified via e-mail of
their acceptance and will receive detailed instructions via e-mail to access
the WebEx session.
