SUBJECT:	Virginia School Health Services Institute, July 17-20, 2006

The Virginia Department of Education, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Health, is pleased to announce the School Health Services Institute at Longwood University July 17-20, 2006. The annual institute training sessions provide technical assistance for new school nurses (registered nurses and licensed practical nurses), new school nurse coordinators, experienced school nurses, experienced school nurse coordinators, nursing assistants, private school nurses, and school health administrators.

Informative sessions to be offered include:

• Pandemic Influenza State Plan and Schools
• Legal Issues in School Health Services
• Student Health Assessment Skills
• Methamphetamine Use in Virginia
• Reporting of Communicable Disease
• Role of the School Nurse in Special Education
• Care of Students with Chronic Disease
• Emergency Medical Services Triage
• Care of the Student with Food Allergies
• School Population-Based Screenings
• Curbing School Violence
• Promoting Healthy Lifestyles

Registration for the four days is $50, and includes training materials and all meals. Accommodations are dormitory rooms at the University. Registration forms should be submitted to the Department of Education, Office of Student Services. Please feel free to duplicate the attached registration form and distribute it to anyone who might be interested.
