2006 Teacher-to-Teacher Summer Workshops

 

Building on the success of previous teacher workshops,

the U.S. Department of Education (USED) will again host

a series of workshops for K-12 teachers and principals in the summer of 2006. Some of the nations best teachers and practitioners will share their strategies for raising student achievement and inform teachers of the latest, successful research-based practices.

 

The general workshops will focus on the content areas of literacy/reading, mathematics, science, history, and the arts. Additional sessions will be held in the areas of early childhood education, technology in the classroom, English as a Second Language, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, using data effectively, and teaching strategies that can enable all levels of students to improve academically.

 

Some of the history, science, and mathematics workshops will be held on-site at three national parks. The sessions will be conducted by USED staff and National Park Service personnel with an expertise in the parks significance. Tours of all of the parks will be offered to teachers free of charge during the workshop.

 

Some science and mathematics workshops will be sponsored by TechNet Partners with the USED. These sessions will include guest speakers from technology companies, such as National Semiconductor, Microsoft, Cisco, and EMC.

 

Two foreign language workshops with a special emphasis on Mandarin Chinese will also be offered this summer. These workshops will be open to all foreign language teachers. Teachers are encouraged to attend and learn research-based teaching methods in the area of foreign language.

 

There is no registration charge for the workshops. Additionally, meals and refreshments will be provided during the scheduled workshop activities. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.
