SUBJECT:

Algebra Readiness Initiative (ARI) Training Workshops

This summer the Virginia Department of Education will sponsor two half-day training workshops related to the Algebra Readiness Initiative (ARI). These workshops will concentrate on the use of the Algebra Readiness Diagnostic Test (ARDT) and how to use the test results in making decisions affecting instruction. Both workshops are for people who have never used the ARDT but will have responsibility for its administration and score interpretation in the fall of 2006.

The workshops will be held on August 9, 2006, at Bailey Bridge Middle School in Chesterfield County. There will be one session in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Each division may send up to two participants using the attached registration form due by July 28, 2006. Registrations will be accepted in the order they are received until the workshops are full. For participants from divisions more than 75 miles from the workshop site, Algebra Readiness matching funds may be used for travel expenses.

For additional information, please contact Dr. Lois A. Williams, mathematics specialist, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, by e-mail at lois.williams@doe.virginia.gov, or by telephone at (804) 786-8078.
