Update
on Revised Fine Arts Standards of Learning |
The
Virginia Board of Education adopted revised Fine
Arts Standards of Learning on April 26, 2006. The .pdf and Word versions of this document
and crosswalk charts comparing the content of the May 2000 Standards of Learning and the newly adopted fine arts standards are
available on the Department of Educations website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Art/.
The
Department of Educations goal for the implementation schedule will be to allow
teachers at all levels, beginning in the fall of 2006, to focus instruction on
the content in the newly revised Fine
Arts Standards of Learning.
Recognizing that curriculum alignment efforts require planning, time,
staff development, and resources, school divisions should begin to:
review
and align their fine arts curricula with the revised standards;
review
current resource materials and correlate them with the revised standards;
identify
new materials where needed; and
provide
staff development for teachers as appropriate.
If
you have questions about the Fine Arts
Standards of Learning, please contact Cheryle C. Gardner, principal
specialist of fine arts, Office of Middle and High School Instruction, by
e-mail at Cherry.Gardner@doe.virginia.gov,
or telephone at (804) 225-2881.
