SUBJECT:	Specifications for School Buses

The Board of Education is currently reviewing specifications for school buses. The proposed 2006 School Bus Specifications were presented to the Board on May 24, 2006, for first review. These specifications were developed by the Department of Educations Pupil Transportation Service, in conjunction with a specifications committee comprised of Pupil Transportation representatives from each of the eight regions in the state as well as a representative from the State Police.

The proposed specifications have been posted on the Department of Education website at: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Finance/proposedbusspecs.pdf.

The Board has directed the Department to conduct a public comment period prior to the final adoption of the specifications. School divisions and interested parties are encouraged to review these specifications. Comments regarding these specifications should be mailed to Ms. June F. Eanes, director of support services, P. O. Box 2120, Richmond, VA 23218-2120 or e-mailed to her at June.Eanes@doe.virginia.gov. All comments must be received by July 12, 2006. The Department will make final recommendations to the Board of Education on July 26, 2006, at which time it is expected that the Board will vote to adopt the 2006 school bus specifications.
