SUBJECT:

Final Title IV, Part A: Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (SDFSCA) Entitlements for the 2006-07 School Year Under Provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Public Law 107-110

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has recently received final information from the U.S. Department of Education about the level of funding for the SDFSCA program.

Total Allocation to Virginia $6,414,756

        Governors Office (20%) $1,282,951

        VDOE (80%) $5,131,805

Of the $5,131,805 allocated to the VDOE, funds will be distributed as follows:

        School Divisions (93%) $4,772,578.65

        VDOE (7%) $ 359,226.35

Information about an expected 21 percent overall reduction in funding was provided to SDFSCA school division coordinators in February 2006. Preliminary funding information was also provided to the coordinators as a part of their technical assistance workshop on May 18, 2006.

The attached table provides a listing by school division of the final Title IV, Part A entitlements. This information varies only slightly from the preliminary estimates provided to the coordinators in rounded dollars. While some school division allocations remained exactly the same, some school divisions gained a few cents while others may have lost a few cents.

Questions regarding the Title IV program should be directed to Arlene Cundiff, coordinator of the safe and drug-free schools program, via e-mail Arlene.Cundiff@doe.virginia.gov or telephone (804-225-2871) or to Jo Ann Burkholder, safe and drug-free schools program specialist, via e-mail Joann.Burkholder@doe.virginia.gov or telephone (804)371-7586.
