Virginia Grade Level Alternative Scores and Modified Standard Diplomas |
Students with disabilities who participated in the Virginia Grade Level Alternative (VGLA) during their eighth-grade year and who are working toward a Modified Standard Diploma may use their VGLA scores to fulfill the literacy and numeracy requirements of this diploma. Student VGLA submissions DO NOT need to be submitted to the Department of Education for further review before being used to verify the literacy and numeracy requirements of the Modified Standard Diploma.
Students
in ninth grade or above who are working toward a Modified Standard Diploma but
did not take the grade 8 Standards of Learning test or participate in the VGLA
in eighth grade are required to participate in the Virginia Substitute
Evaluation Program (VSEP) to meet the Modified Standard Diploma literacy and
numeracy requirements. Modified Standard
Diploma candidates must submit VSEP collections of evidence based on the eighth-grade
reading and mathematics Standards of Learning.
Collections of evidence must be submitted under the VSEP guidelines to
