Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities. Learn and Serve America funds K-12 programs in all states through three-year formula grants to enable local schools to integrate community service with educational content areas. For further information visit the following website: http://www.learnandserve.org/.
The purpose of the Learn and Serve Virginia 2006-2007 grants and continuation grants in 2007-2009 is to integrate the Virginia Standards of Learning in grades 6-12 with numerous existing environmental initiatives and partnerships in an effort to increase environmental, particularly watershed, stewardship.
