Bullying
Prevention Staff Development Workshops |
In 2005, the Virginia General Assembly enacted legislation to include
bullying prevention as a mandatory component of character education. The[character education] program shall also
address the inappropriateness of bullying, as defined in the Student Conduct
Policy Guidelines adopted by the Board of Education pursuant to 22.1-279.6.
In direct response to the
legislation, five regional staff development bullying prevention workshops were
offered across the commonwealth in the spring of 2006. The workshops proved to
be very popular. All five workshops were filled to capacity.
In order to meet the continued
demand, the Virginia Department of Education, in cooperation with Virginia
Commonwealth University (VCU), is pleased to announce two additional regional
workshops; one in
These half-day workshops will
provide participants with information and resources that will enable them to
return to their own school and provide staff development on bullying
prevention. Each participant will receive free materials and resources including
a presentation kit from the Channing Bete Company, Inc., entitled Bullying: Prevention and Intervention for
School Staff.

While the workshops are being
offered at no cost to the participant, pre-registration is required. VCUs
Center for School-Community Collaboration will handle online registration and other workshop logistics.

Registration for each site is
limited to no more than 100 participants.

prior to the workshop date.
