VDOE Re-enrollment Institute

 

The purpose of this memo is to announce the Virginia Department of Educations (VDOE) institute, A Team Approach to Re-enrollment: Making It Work. The institute has been designed to provide technical assistance in implementing the new state re-enrollment regulations and enhancing interagency cooperation and support. The new regulations governing the re-enrollment of students committed to the Department of Juvenile Justice became effective August 23, 2006. The regulations present a procedure for re-enrollment of students into the public schools when they have been in the custody of the juvenile justice system and receiving instruction through local and regional detention homes and the Department of Correctional Education.

 

The institute will be presented in two locations. The first regional institute is scheduled for November 14, 2006, at the George Washington Inn and Conference Center, Williamsburg, and the second regional institute is scheduled for November 17, 2006, and will be held at the Holiday Inn, Roanoke, Virginia. Registration is limited to 300 participants for each session. Online registration and additional information can be found at http://www.soe.vcu.edu/csc/. Representatives from the Department of Juvenile Justice, school divisions, detention centers, and the Department of Correctional Education and court services are being encouraged to attend.
