Algebra
Readiness Symposium III |
On
November 17, 2006, the Virginia Department of Education will host Algebra
Readiness Symposium III, a professional development opportunity for school
personnel. The purpose of the symposium is to introduce the Algebra Readiness
Curriculum Companion, an online document that keys lesson plans to the
strengths and weaknesses of students as determined by the Algebra Readiness
Diagnostic Test. The symposium will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and
Registration
is open to all Algebra Readiness Initiative (ARI) coordinators and
tutors/teachers. Each division should send only one registration form with all
participants listed. Participants will be expected to disseminate information
about use of the Algebra Readiness Curriculum Companion within their respective
divisions. Registration forms are due by
November 3, 2006.
School
divisions are invited to send a number of representatives based on their fall
2006 enrollment. Divisions with enrollments under 10,000 students may send two
participants. Divisions with enrollments between 10,001 and 30,000 may send
three participants. Divisions with enrollments over 30,000 may send four
participants.
The
Virginia Department of Education will cover the cost of one nights lodging for
those traveling over 75 miles from the site of the symposium. The department
encourages school division teams to share rooms at the facility on a double
occupancy basis where appropriate. Room reservations for those outside the 75
miles must be made by October 16, 2006, by calling the Hotel Roanoke and
