Comment Period and Public Hearings for the Revised English Language
Proficiency Standards of Learning |
On September
27, 2006, the Virginia Board of Education accepted for first review the
proposed English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards of Learning. The Virginia Board of Education is now
seeking public comment on these Standards of Learning for use in Virginia
public schools.
The
Department of Education has provided the proposed ELP Standards of Learning as
an attachment to this memorandum. Also,
the document is posted on the Departments website at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/ESL/.
The Virginia
Board of Education will hold two public hearings to solicit comments on the
proposed ELP Standards of Learning.
Below are the dates and locations of the public hearings:

Time: The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 6:30

Time: Immediately following the adjournment of the
State Board of Education business meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 10:30

Speakers will
have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the
Board.
